What are security questions?

Security questions are an extra layer of protection that helps us recognize that it's you signing in to your account – and not a bad person with bad intentions.

Plus, if a bad person gets your username and password, they may try and sign in from a different location. Anytime someone tries to sign in from a new or unrecognized computer, they'll have to answer your security questions to even get into the account, which would be tough to do.

What if I forgot my security questions?

If the answers to your security questions have slipped from memory, we do offer an alternative way to get into your account. Once you have signed in, you can select new questions and answers that you can easily remember.

Why can't I look up my security questions?

We want to make sure your account security questions and answers aren't easily accessible to fraudsters (which helps keep your account safe). That's why you won't see the details of your security questions anywhere on our website or apps.

Can I change my security questions?

You bet you can change your security questions.

Let's take a look at how that's done:

  1. Sign in at www.capitaloneinvesting.com
  2. Go to the Accounts Tab
  3. In the 'Overview' drop-down menu, select Profile & Settings
  4. Your security settings are in the 'Personal Info' tab of the 'Profile & Settings' page
